UPVC Replacement Door Handles
Over time, the handles on your doors will get worn out and require replacement. It is essential to be able to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing them.
The top screw's position the lever, and the keyhole sizes are the three measurements that you need to verify. Use the size guide to assist you.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever handle or lever is a modern door handle that is designed to fit new or replacement doors. This type of handle is available in various styles and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The door handles of uPVC/Composite are made of sturdy materials and are ideal for doors with multi-point locks which require a robust design. The handles are inline and run with the same spindle as well as screw fixings. They are easily installed on doors made of uPVC/Composite, either new or old.
The spring lever design allows the handle to be placed and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles, this will ensure the quality of the finish and performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever is adjustable to fit a wide range of locks. This is particularly useful for narrower doors where the cylinder is further back in the door. A lever that is shorter can be used for doors that have a latch that can be opened by the thumb inside.
Repair My Windows And Doors operates differently to the lever type handles found on most doors. These handle types can either use a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side using two offset or inline spindles (pad). They are usually employed on UPVC doors with double glazing and come in a variety of finishes & variations.
The handles have been tested to at least 200 000 cycles and are available in various finishes like White Silver, Chrome, & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to rust. This provides the handle with an outstanding performance and long-lasting durability for the purpose it was designed for.
All of the UPVC lever pad designs come with a spindle and screws, allowing them to be fitted on any new or existing uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixing centres allow for a larger size handle that can often be a benefit when replacing a damaged or worn multi-point door lock mechanism. These handle levers have a spring, which solves the problem of door handles that sag out of the horizontal position when they are not being used.
It is important to match up the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when selecting a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is also referred to as 'handle centres or cylinder centres'. It is important for matching the correct handles.
When you have the right PZ size, you'll need to ensure that the handle lever pads and push pads are of a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you need for your doors. These are typically square or round with an internal lever, and an external push pad.
Most of the UPVC lever pads that we sell are sprung, meaning that they will return to their horizontal position after not in use, rather than hanging out and potentially sticking in the frame. This stops draughts from entering the property. The majority of UPVC lever pad handles are available in left and right handed versions that allow them to be put on either side of the doors.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are usually used on uPVC doors, but can also be found on other types of doors. The cylinder lock is operated by a key which unlocks the cylinder case. The case is then able to reveal pins that can be aligned with those in the lock, and permit them to rotate the revolving camera, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.
The choice of cylinder is crucial. It is based on the amount of use your doors and handles will receive. External doors, for instance, should be fitted with higher security cylinders while doors inside can be secured using the standard cylinder. Some cylinders have extra features that can increase security, like anti drill or anti bump properties.
A euro cylinder must be measured correctly to ensure that it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn in the event that one is present. It is recommended to do this with the lock in place, but if this is not feasible, you can take it off and remove it to measure. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon may be vulnerable to attacks, such as lock snapping, so it is important that it is not too long.
The majority of modern cylinders have been designed with anti-drill and bump resistance features included in their design. They are designed to minimize attack chances by forcing the cylinders to turn in a new direction. This helps prevent attacks and keep your doors safe.

Certain cylinders are constructed to resist snapping. This is a growing method of attack on cylinders, where the break line in the lock is targeted with a special tool to break off the front of the cylinder to allow the door to be opened. This is a much faster and more convenient method of gaining access than the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the burglary which could delay insurance claims.
Spring Cassette
The spring cassette is positioned inside the base of the door handle backplate, providing a spring solution to return your multipoint lock handles to their rest position after usage. The handles were previously equipped with no spring and would drop when the locking mechanism was disengaged. This simple part is the best solution to address this issue. It also prevents your upvc door from becoming stuck in either the closed or open position, as they aren't easy to close manually.
These spring cassettes are specially designed for use with sprung multipoint locks but they won't work with non-sprung multipoint handles. You must have a bespoke hole cut into your backplate to allow these to fit (please look at the image for a technical diagram). They are a replacement for broken or missing cassettes in the backplates of door handles of many brands of uPVC doors. They are sold as a single unit. They come with a square cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.
These spring cassettes are an excellent value solution for the issue of door handles that have become sagging. They are simple to install and will extend the life of your uPVC door.
